TOWN OF BUCHANAN SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON 

FUNDING APPROACH FOR ROAD REPAIR AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

 Residents encouraged to complete survey by May 1

BUCHANAN, WIS. – This month, a survey will be mailed to every household. Responses are requested by Friday, May 1, 2026.

Currently, the Town borrows to fund capital improvements. The survey seeks to gather input about whether the community prefers to fund a larger portion of its capital improvements in cash. To do so, the Town would need to increase its property tax levy via a voter-approved referendum. Survey results will help Town officials determine how to proceed.

“The maintenance and repair of our roads is critical to our Town’s functioning, and it keeps our residents and visitors safe as they drive through Buchanan. At the same time, we can improve our roads and modernize our approach to drainage so we can depend on them for years to come,” said Michael Brown, Town Administrator for Buchanan. “Feedback from our residents about these capital improvements, including the way we fund them, will set Buchanan up with a smart strategy to repair and enhance our roads over the next decade.”

To create and distribute the survey, the Town of Buchanan is working with an independent survey partner, Community Perceptions. All responses will be anonymous. More information about the survey can be found at www.townofbuchanan.org/CIP-Survey 

Additional information about Buchanan’s Capital Improvement Plan

In 2019, the Town undertook a planning study to develop a five-to-ten-year road reconstruction and maintenance plan. The plan takes into consideration the road conditions and drainage approach, as well as the Town’s financial capacity to complete projects. Each year since, that plan has been updated to focus on priority projects. The current Capital Improvement Plan identifies a need to repair Buchanan’s roads. 

The plan, along with supplementary progress reports and guidelines, is available on the Town’s dedicated Capital Improvement Plan webpage.

All households in the town will receive one copy of the survey. Surveys will arrive by mail starting the week of April 6, 2026 and can be completed online or returned by mail through Friday, May 1, 2026:

• Online: Log on to www.Survey2000.com and enter the unique, alphanumeric survey code printed on your copy of the survey. Each survey code can be used only once. Residents are encouraged to take the survey online to reduce handling costs.

• Paper: Complete the hard copy survey received by mail and return it in the provided postage-paid envelope to Community Perceptions: PO Box 607, Slinger, WI 53086.

Survey results will be presented publicly at a Town Board meeting and will be made available online.
