Fire Service Automatic Aid Agreements with the Village of Wrightstown, Town of Harrison & Hollandtown Fire Departments

Since January 1, 2009 an agreement has been in effect between the Town of Buchanan and the Village of Wrightstown to provide new and enhanced fire protection for any property in the Town of Buchanan east of Loderbauer Road. A similar agreement became effective with Hollandtown Fire Department in July of 2010.

All departments are simultaneously dispatched to any fire emergency call within the service area (east of Loderbauer Road).  The Town of Buchanan will handle all non-emergency fire department related calls in this service area.

In 2010, the Town also completed a similar agreement with the Harrison Fire Department for emergency calls west of Loderbauer Road.

New Safety Law in the State of Wisconsin

A new law went into effect on February 1, 2011 that all new and existing residential homes that contain a gas heating appliance, fireplace or an attached garage must install carbon monoxide alarms.  Existing Construction: CO alarms must be either battery-powered or plug-in with battery backup. New Construction: CO alarms must be hardwired with battery backup. At least one CO alarm must be installed on every level of a dwelling, including the basement.  All alarms bearing the Intertek mark meet the requirements set forth by the WI Dept. of Commerce.

Burning in the Town of Buchanan

The Town of Buchanan adopted an Outdoor Burning Code in January 2009.  Permits are required for outdoor burning (see Forms page for an application).  Any questions on the ordinance can be directed to the Town Hall at 734-8599.

Grant Money Received for Buchanan Fire & Rescue

The Town was awarded in 2009, $5,000 from the Georgia-Pacific Foundation to purchase turnout gear for our firefighters.  We thank Georgia-Pacific for this generous grant which supports our department.

The Town has also received funding in 2009 under the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.  The approved project  total was $35,000 for an exhaust removal system. The Federal share of this grant was 95% of the approved amount.

In 2008 we were awarded approximately $94,000 in grant funds.  Because we were fortunate enough to receive grant money, this helps reduce equipment purchase expenses for the Buchanan taxpayers while improving public safety.

Adopt a Hydrant

If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, please keep it clear of snow during the winter.  This allows us quick and easy access in case of an emergency.  Thank you!
