Garbage and Recycling Rules

Please help to keep your neighborhood clean by doing the following:

  • Your garbage and recyclables must be out by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day.  To verify your garbage and recycling day please click on the following link:  Buchanan Garbage and Recycling Days.
  • There is a limit of no more than FIVE 30-gallon trash bags per residence per week.
  • No bag or container should weigh more than 50 lbs.
  • Bag and close all garbage even if you are using a garbage can.
  • Be sure to bag packing materials such as packing peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.
  • Make sure that your garbage and recyclables are on the same side of the street CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. Veolia is using one truck with 3 separate compartments to pick up your recycling and garbage all at once.
  • Large over sized items and appliances require stickers that need to be purchased at the Town Hall weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  You will then be added to the list for the next large item or appliance pick up.  For more information regarding these large item pick-ups please click on the following link:  Appliance & Brown Goods (Bulky Item) Pick up Information.
  • Recycling is mandatory and if it is mixed with regular trash, it can be refused to be picked up.
  • Use brown paper bags from the grocery store to place all your paper materials in, even if you use a plastic recycling container.
  • Cardboard should be cut into pieces no larger than 2' x 2', then placed in a brown paper grocery bag or tied into bundles.  Cardboard and paper can not be in the same container or mixed in with the glass, tin, #1 & #2 plastics and aluminum.
  • Blue recycling bags are no longer accepted.  Please use a container clearly marked with a recycling emblem.  There are recycling stickers available at the Town Hall if you would like to designate your own container.  You can co-mingle your glass, tin, #1 & #2 plastic and aluminum all in one container.
  • Stop by the Town Hall for a "Home Recycle Kit" outlining the do's and don'ts of recycling or go online to the Outagamie County Solid Waste/Recycling webpage.
